Please post your thoughts here. Any input will help us in determining a position statement for the Chamber.

Thanks!

It's about time we get this in! Imagine all the projects we could of had done and enjoyed if we would of had this in effect years ago. I also challenge anyone who thinks about and does not shop in a certain city because they have a 1/2 cent sales tax. If you are in doubt the impact it brings to a community, talk to most of the citizens from Rochester who have passed it and re-passed it numerous times by a large margin. Also talk to the citizens and businesses from Albert Lea who recently passed theirs 80-20. Finally, I have had contact with many people across the state whose communities have the 1/2 cent sales tax and overwhelmingly they are in favor of it!

Taxes have a way of being mis-directed,and re-routed, Organizations do not live within
there means and will always spend
additional monies on whatever
projects come to mind.. ( take
the Education system, the largest
user / and one of the problem
issues in this state, Parties are
overtaxed to this point, I could
list all the taxes, however we no
the list would be long..

I believe that we need to cut taxes, especially at this time because the economy is not helping.
If we cut taxes the at least for a few years while the economy is low.
Personaly I will cut it down to 4% per cent to bring more people to this town.

Surrounding communities have figured out ways through sales-tax dollars to fund, not only ways to improve their towns, but to preserve them as well. Owatonna is in an enviable position especially with the businesses located out in the three-corners (Cabela's) area, to take advantage of an immense amount of non-resident tax dollars to accomplish some long sought-after things for this community. I do not believe that we'll lose shoppers if we are fortunate enough to pass this - In fact, I believe that Owatonna will be more inviting with the things that we are able to accomplish because of it.
